Albert Sydney Brooker was born in England and immigrated to Canada where he lived at 71 Brock Street, Brantford, Ontario. At the time of his enlistment, his next of kin was listed as his mother, Mrs. Ellen Brooker. Prior to his enlistment, Brooker had previous servious with the 38th Regiment.

Brooker enlisted in the 215th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force at Brantford on the 27th of March 1916. He embarked for France with the 215th Battalion from Halifax, Nova Scotia on board SS Olympic on the 29th of April 1917.

Brooker survived the war. For his service during the Great War of 1914-1918, Sapper Brooker was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
