Sapper ARTHUR CLEMENTS
Royal Engineers

Arthur Clements enlisted in the Royal Engineers Territorial Force for service in the Great War of 1914 to 1918. He was posted to the 5th (London County) Field Company, R.E. in the London Division. In January of 1917 this company was redesignated the 513th Field Company with the 56th Division.

The war service of Clements' company in France and Flanders included participation in the following major actions:

Guillemont: 3-6 September 1916
Ginchy: 9 September 1916
Flers-Courcelette: 15-22 September 1916
Morval: 25-28 September 1916
Le Transloy: 1-18 October 1916
Scarpe: 9-14 April 1917
Scarpe: 3-4 May 1917
Langemarck: 16-18 August 1917
Cambrai: 20 November - 3 December 1917
Arras: 28 March 1918
Albert: 21-23 August 1918
Scarpe: 26-30 August 1918
Drocourt-Queant: 2-3 September 1918
Canal Du Nord: 27 September - 1 October 1918
Cambrai: 8-9 October 1918
Valenciennes: 1-2 November 1918
Sambre: 4 November 1918

Sapper Clements survived the war and was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal. He was also awarded the Silver War Badge for wound received in action.
