Brown’s Medal Index Card does not indicate to which theater of war he was assigned or when he went abroad. It is most likely that he served in France and Flanders during the war.

Specific information regarding the locations of his unit(s) and the battles or campaigns that he may have engaged in is not available. Brown’s Medal Index Card indicates that during the war he rose to the rank of Corporal and was appointed an Acting Sergeant. He was not demobilized following the end of the Great War and served in India from 1919 to 1924. He was issued the India General Service Medal while in India on 6 July 1922. This medal is named to him as a Sergeant.(3)
