The Burma Star (*)
(11th of December 1941 to 2nd of September 1945)

This medal was awarded for service in the Burma Campaign between the dates indicated above, both dates inclusive. Medals were awarded to Army personnel who served in any part of Burma between these dates. Service in the provinces of Bengal and Assam between the 1st of May 1942 and the 31st of December 1943 and in the same provinces between the 1st of January 1944 and the 2nd of September 1945 also qualified for the medal. Service in China and Malaya between the 16th of February 1942 and the 2nd of September 1945 was also included.

Visits and inspections that were approved by any of the Commanders-in-Chief qualified, providing that they were over thirty days’ duration. Those who qualified for both the Burma and Pacific Stars were awarded a silver rose emblem to be worn on the ribbon of the star first earned, when the ribbons alone are worn. When the Burma Star itself is worn, the recipient is entitled to wear a bar with the title [PACIFIC] attached to the ribbon.

The ribbon is dark blue with a wide red stripe down the centre. The blue edges those formed have a central orange stripe. The red symbolizes the British Commonwealth Forces and the orange symbolizes the sun.
