Brown’s Medal Index Card indicates that during the war he rose to the rank of Corporal and was appointed an Acting Sergeant. He was not demobilized following the end of the Great War and served in India from 1919 to 1924. He was issued the India General Service Medal while in India on 6 July 1922. This medal is named to him as a Sergeant.(3)
