1468 (560128) Sapper
LIONEL HENRY JAMES BRAY

Lionel Henry James Bray enlisted as a Sapper in the 2nd London Division Signal Company, Royal Engineers. His Regimental Number in this Territorial Force unit was 1468. His number was subsequently changed to 560128 when the company was redesignated the 47th Division Signal Company in January of 1917.

Sapper Bray served with the 47th Division Signal Company in France and Flanders. He arrived in the theatre of war on the 18th of March 1915. His company took part in the following actions during the war:

Pozieres: 23 July - 3 September 1916
Flers-Courcelette: 15-22 September 1916

St. Quentin: 21-23 March 1918
Bapaume: 24-25 March 1918
Ancre: 5 April 1918
Amiens: 8-11 August 1918
Albert: 21-23 August 1918
Bapaume: 31 August - 3 September 1918
Pursuit to Mons: 28 September - 11 November 1918

Sapper Bray survived the war and was transferred to the Army Reserve on the 14th of February 1919. For his service during the Great War of 1914-1918 he was awarded the 1914-15 Star, the British War Medal and Victory Medal. For outstanding performance his duties in civilian life Lionel Henry James Bray received the Imperial Service Medal (GVIR).
